I am originally from the Seattle area and because it was rainy most of the year I never wore flip flops. In 2017 I moved to California and ended up in Los Angeles selling my art at the beach. In LA I wore flip flops all summer. They are the easiest shoe to wear when you are in the sand everyday.
I recently moved to the desert and find myself wearing flip flops at the pool. So for me, they are a California thing. Tonight I decided to pay homage to the shoes I never thought I would wear.
My new painting is 8” x 10” oil on canvas and will be available for purchase soon at Wendybsstudio90264 on Etsy.
A few weeks ago I finished a painting of an intersection on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California. The painting was done from a photograph I took on one of my trips to Hollywood. I enjoy painting the unexpected or the mundane over the “touristy” spots. In my mind this painting represents the “real” Hollywood over what most people see in the media.
The medium I use currently is oil and I paint on stretched canvas or panel board. I begin each painting by coating the blank canvas with a color medium in tone. This assures that none of the canvas will be left blank and it makes painting much easier to have a base coat.
I then take a paint brush and a darker color and sketch in only the main shapes to assure that the perspective and dimensions are correct. I can easily paint over any mistakes at this time.
I then begin filling in some of the shadows or darker colors.
Slowly adding color elements of the painting begin to come into view. At this stage I usually paint the sky and some of the main objects of the painting.
Continuing to work on the main shapes, I fill in colors without worrying about detail yet.
Once the main colors have all been places, I work on the details of the painting until I decide it is finished.
I had a lot of fun on this painting. It took me about 4 days working several hours each day. I like to let some of the layers dry before continuing on, especially once I start on the details.
This week Wendy B’s Studio has leveled up a notch and now have a store on Shopify. We are excited to be able to add more products and reach a larger audience.
So what’s new? One of the advantages of being on Shopify gives us the ability to diversify our product line. We have canvas prints, greeting cards, mugs, tote bags framed posters, t-shirts and metal prints. Besides selling a wider variety of products we are now able to sell wholesale. If you are interested in featuring any of our products in your brick and mortar store, please contact us for the wholesale price.
What does this mean for the Etsy shop? The Etsy shop has not changed and will continue to focus on home decor and the California lifestyle.
We have featured one of our new products in our blog post image. This is a photo of Indio, California and is available at Wendy B’s Studio on Shopify. We hope you will take a peak and see what we offer.

What is trending for interior design this summer? Here at Wendy B’s Studio we are into vibes that bring the beach indoors. How do we do it? We surround ourselves with wall decor that reminds us of our favorite places to visit during the summer. The photo above is of the Beach Cafe located at Paradise Cove in Malibu, California.
This photo is of the Malibu Lagoon. I love the contrast of the blue sky and the sandy beach. These are nice calming colors for the indoors.
When we think of beaches in California, we always picture surfers. Surfing brings the good vibes home.

The housing market has always been fiercely competitive for those trying to sell their homes. How can you make your home stand out from the rest? The answer is home staging.
Why is home staging so important in todays real estate market? Whether you are selling your home yourself or using a realtor, homes sell faster if they are staged. When a home looks like it is move in ready, it emotionally connects the buyer. It allows them to visually imagine themselves living in the home and think about their own belongings there.
Statistics show that a staged home will sell for more than a vacant home. Think of the home staging as an investment and marketing tool. You can stage the home yourself or use a professional. Staging will help you get the most value from your home sale.
A staged home looks kept up. When a home looks nice and ready to move in, the buyer is less likely to worry about repairs. An unkept or empty home may make a buyer worry that necessary repairs to the home have not been done and if they buy the home they may need to spend more money.
Now that you know the importance of home staging, where can you find items to decorate with? That is where Wendy B’s Studio comes in. We have wonderful wall decor and other items for the home. Visit our site for your wall decor needs. Wishing you the best on selling your home.

I moved to the desert a year and a half ago and because of Covid I have not been able to travel around very much. Last week I finally made it to Palm Springs. I spent all of my time downtown and found it spectacular. The winters in the desert are surprisingly warm and sunny and a great time to visit.
One of the first places I came across was the Plaza Theatre. As a photographer and artist I was drawn to it by the colors and the architecture. The rest of downtown was the same, great colors, lots to see and amazing architecture.
What is There to See?
Downtown Palm Springs is full of restaurants, cafes, and shops. It is a great place to wander around and eat a nice meal outdoors. Just a block from one of the main shopping areas is the art museum. you can’t miss the museum as there is a large statue of Marilyn Monroe in front of it.

Because of the nice winter weather there are a lot of bicyclists taking advantage of the sun and scenery. Palm Springs is a great winter getaway.
Wendy B’s Studio
At Wendy B’s Studio we offer an instant downloadable photograph of the Plaza Theatre in 4 sizes, the largest being 18″ x 24″. I hope you will visit our website and stay tuned for more of Palm Springs.
If you head north on Highway 1 in Malibu you will eventually come to a large sign that says Paradise Cove. It is worth the parking fee to drive down the road and park in front of the restaurant The Beach Cafe. While I admit I have not eaten at the restaurant, those who do never look disappointed.
Be sure to take a walk on the beach. To the left is a small dock that I believe people fish off of and to the right if you walk far enough there are beautiful cliffs that rise off of the beach. I have never been to a more beautiful spot in my life. I was able to take quite a few photos and this photo is my favorite. It captures the beauty of the coastline.
Digital Downloads
I am now offering many of my photographs of Malibu and other places I have travelled to as digital downloads. What is a digital download? It is a file you can instantly download after purchase on my Etsy Shop Wendy B’s Studio . I hope you will take a moment and visit to see all that we have to offer in our home decor niche.
Last week I went for a bike ride here in the desert. The weather this time of year is gorgeous and I wanted to take advantage of it. I grabbed my camera and hopped on my bike and began riding around the neighborhood. I decided I wanted to ride down to the vegetable stand to see what kinds of fresh produce they had available.
I was delighted to see they had many types of fresh veggies and the man working behind the counter did not mind me photographing some of them. I will be riding back to get some soon. I continued riding through the neighborhood and got some great shots.
Back at the Studio
Once I was back at the studio I looked over the photographs I had taken. The shots of the vegetables were taken with the macro setting so I could get close. After processing the photos I thought some of them would make great digital downloads for the Etsy shop. Digital downloads are a newer item I have been working on. People can download the photos right from Etsy onto their own computer. They can print the photos themselves or copy them and have them printed elsewhere. It makes decorating a lot less expensive to print the photos yourself and for me, I do not have to mail anything, so it is a timesaver.
The photos of the veggies would make great kitchen decor or also decor for restaurants and cafes. If you add a frame and mat they can look quite wonderful.
Where to Find Them
These photographs and much more home decor can be found at Wendybsstudio90264 on Etsy. I hope you will stop by and take a look.
